Goals & Outcomes
my story..As I previously mentioned on my welcome page, dance has always been my strongest passion, ever since I was young. It's something that has always made me happy and I always want it to be apart of my life. I did not grow up in a wealthy home, so I did not have many opportunities that other children may have had in terms of being able to participate in extra curricular activities. Since my mother could not afford to put me in dance classes, I had to rely on my passion for dance, natural ability and personal ambition at a young age. I spent several hours learning choreography from countless different performers, concerts and music videos on television. I loved creating my own choreography and teaching it to friends as well. I participated in almost every talent show from the age of ten up until graduation. I was a member of my high school dance company and loved the entire experience. In recent years, I've had the opportunity to be apart of two local non-profit dance organizations. The first, I auditioned for in Jan of 2010 and danced with them for six months. The second, was my own group which I assembled later that year. We rehearsed twice a week and had three performances within a few short months. It came to an end when found out I was expecting in early November. ![]() "Frequently the most talented people are those most aware of their own deficiencies and most willing to work hard to overcome them." - Lee Strasberg | ![]() "Don't ask what the world needs, ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurmanlong term and short term goals..The reason I decided to return to school, is that I finally feel like I'm at a place where I'm able to accomplish anything. I feel, like the quote above states, as if I have come alive. I've come to the realization, that life is all about doing what you love and I don't intend on wasting another day. Dancing is something that lifts my spirit and brings me joy. It reminds me of how I felt as a young child when I first fell in love the the art. In the last few years, I've experienced more personal success than I have throughout most of my life. Mostly due to my upbringing which in turn, had a major affect on my confidence in many ways. I feel I suddenly possess an insane amount of ambition and I want, more than anything, to become the amazing dancer I've always had the potential to be. My lack of technical training has been what's held me back from pursuing a career in dance. My overall, longterm goal is to challenge myself, build strong technique and learn of dance history. I'm also preparing to audition for SLCC Dance Co. in the Fall of 2013. I plan to use my training to audition for various companies throughout the state and possibly outside of Utah. I've been lucky enough to have had experience as a teacher, inside and outside of the studio. I feel I would excel in any position where I have the opportunity to give guidance to others. I would absolutely love to teach part time at a local studio after touring with a professional company. A few of my short term goals include; passing my current classes with a B+ or higher and work on building an amazing ePortfolio. I can't wait to experience all that I plan to accomplish here at Salt Lake Community College. |
